Community Brass Band
Through a partnership with Progressive Beulah Pentecostal Church, HPYS offers a tuition-free class for beginning brass students who do not have access to instrumental ensembles in their schools. Located on-site at PBPC (in Auburn Gresham), the Community Brass Band includes 25 students who are just starting their adventures in music performance.
The team-taught classes encompasses all aspects of music education, including playing brass instruments, learning to read music, and exploring different elements of music and composition. Students have a chance to interact with and learn from different teachers throughout each 90-minute class. The classes include group playing, like-instrument sectionals, and one-on-one time with individual practice sessions and pull-out lessons.
Instruments for the students are provided free of charge thanks to generous donations from Mr. Cornell Dunn. Students are taught how to care for and maintain the instruments as a part of the weekly classes.
Weekly classes are on Monday and Friday from 4:30-6:00pm at Progressive Beulah Pentecostal Church.
